$475,000 in grant funds obtained by LEDC for the Village of Blissfield

The Lenawee Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) has obtained two brownfield grants for cleanup of two properties owned by the Village of Blissfield. The EPA awarded $275,000 for the former cannery (400 E. Jefferson) to remove hazardous materials and prepare the site for demolition and redevelopment.

The second grant for $200,000, from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, for the former gas station located at 316 W. Adrian St. The Village purchased the property and others along the 223 corridor as part of a commercial improvement plan to create 5 mini-parks and public art displays.

“This is an example of the work we do to connect our local partners with funding opportunities and resources,” said Jim Gartin, President & CEO, LEDC. “The funding saves communities money, and facilitates the redevelopment of properties that otherwise would remain blighted.”

The LEDC administers the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Board on behalf of Lenawee County, and has spent grant funds in Morenci, Tecumseh, Adrian and Blissfield.
